Kirtland Hills walk
We took Saturday afternoon to head east along Lake Erie out of Cleveland towards the town of Mentor to check out a few things we’ve haven’t really explored yet. We ended up driving up through Holden Arboretum and found an area called Penitentiary Glen. There are miles of trails looping through a small gorge lined…
Track time in Charlotte
While Charlotte, NC is synonymous with the tracks of a NASCAR type, we made a trip here to watch our daughter in her last outdoor track meet of the season. In typical fashion, the weather is amazing and the place is beautiful. My brother-in-law moved down here a few years ago and bought a cool…
Earth Day was… yesterday?
As a kid growing up through the 80’s and 90’s, I remember Earth Day being a pretty big deal. I don’t know why, exactly. Maybe it’s because I was in school and things like that were a part of the curriculum. Or teachers looking for something to fill their day, possibly. Hard to say. Or…
New Jeep
So… yeah – I kind of feel like a traitor. For just over 30 years I’ve been a die-hard Land Rover fan. It started with the Series Land Rovers around 1995 (my friend’s neighbor had a Series III in his barn), and was quickly bolstered by the then-new Discovery. Things like the Camel Trophy and…
Short hike at Logan’s Run
On a camping trip in the Alleghenies last month, we found a short hike that led to a little section of falls. The creek was called Logan’s Run on the map. It was snowing on us as we walked in and out… pretty magical actually. The trail was only like .3 miles long. Perfect for…
Rocky River Park, early
I woke up early the other day and took Billie on a walk to the lake… got there just a bit before the sun popped through for the day. The lighting really emphasized the break walls against the water. The surface was so calm. Probably some of the glassiest Lake Erie water I’ve seen yet.
Ginny in Virginia
Last month we drove Ginny the Range Rover to Shenandoah for a backpacking trip. She drove as smooth as butter, kept us comfy!
Backpacking in Shenandoah
We picked up Hazel in BVA last weekend and drove north to Shenandoah National Park for an overnight on Chimney Rock. The weather was PERFECT- rained on the way out, but that’s okay.
September 2025 notes
Fall in Ohio means AMAZING temperatures and… yep, grilling, football, and marching bands. We’ve hit Cedar Point a few times (Halloweekends in full swing), and celebrated Amor y Amistad on prompting from a Colombian friend (I made a Colombian egg salad for dinner, amongst other things). We also sold our van, Jonas (photo below taken…
Big summer, been a minute
June, July, August… half of September. It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I’m just going to give a quick rundown. In June the kids started coming home from college, etc. By August everybody was home – packed house to say the least! But it was awesome. In addition to hitting all the cool…
