Sleepy Hollow, Mystic, and the Catskills

It’s been a couple years since we’ve been out through New England in the fall and found some time to do it around Columbus Day. We figured with it being October and everything, we would plan our trip through Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow to see if we could catch the Headless Horseman… didn’t see him, but did see his hangout at the Old Dutch Church and the rest of the cool things in that area. We left town and headed out towards Mystic, Connecticut, and had a fantastic time there as well. The weather was unbelievable, the foliage is in full effect, and everywhere we went people were super friendly and in a great mood. The weather no doubt helped.

We tend to camp in our Jeep most places we go, and had a couple kids in tow so they crashed out in a tent. As we left Connecticut and headed back towards home, it started raining pretty hard in New York and stayed for the last two days of the trip. We ended up grabbing a little cabin outside the Catskills for our last night, which made the trip a lot more enjoyable. Watched a movie and snuggled down instead of hanging out by the campfire, and it was great. And even though the Catskills were pretty soggy and socked in with fog, it made for an ethereal type of beauty that, when combined with the magnificent fall colors, was actually pretty magical.
